"Ever since I first rode a lawn mower with my dad as a kid, I’ve wanted to work outdoors and look after gardens. Before I even left school I was developing my skills and knowledge of how to take care of grass and grounds – reading magazines, asking questions and, of course, learning by doing. From a young age I wanted my own company, with my own equipment (rather than borrowing Dad’s!) and especially wanted to fulfil my biggest dream of looking after a sports ground.
In 2012, I started GroundCare Solutions. As you might imagine, we were a small company – we were operating entirely out of my trusty green sports car, into which you could just about fit a lawn mower. We were only looking after a handful of small residential gardens, but we took care to form a great working relationship with every single customer, ensuring we gave each one the care and attention they needed. That’s a philosophy we’ve carried through to this day.
The hard work paid off when we won our first major contract – Gilston Park House, a wonderful old gothic manor in Harlow. The manor has a 10-acre plot of land, and when we arrived the entire grounds were in a complete state.
But we got on, got the job done, and the end result was that we were able to invest in new equipment, a new yard and new staff, and make our business grow. And we haven’t stopped growing, taking on more grounds and bigger gardens, including prestigious private estates.
We won lots more exciting contracts too – I couldn’t have been happier when we won our bid for Harlow Rugby Club, which in 2018 won the Crabbie’s National Rugby Award for best grounds development. Finally I’d fulfilled my dream of looking after a sports club!
From those early days of working in little residential gardens, right up to the present, our guiding ethos has remained the same. We prioritise our relationship with our customer and that’s what allows us to deliver a second-to-none service. We look after our clients and complete their projects to a standard that’s absolutely crisp. We’re constantly investing in the future too – our ambition is to be the best grounds management and landscaping company around, with every area covered so you never have to look anywhere else. We’ve got lots planned for the future and our journey has just started – I hope you’ll come along for the ride with us."
